A passion born in video games
It all started back in high school. Campbell loved video games—so much so that I’d find myself yelling for him to stop playing because dinner was ready. “Mom, I can’t! I’m playing live with other players!” he’d shout back. At the time, it was frustrating, but looking back, those online sessions were building blocks. He learned to record his best gameplay moments, then figured out how to edit and share them on YouTube. Not only did he refine his skills; he even monetized his channel by teaching others how to capture their best in-game moments.
Choosing a path: The college decision
When college applications rolled around, Campbell knew he wanted to pursue film. We researched the top communication schools—Ohio State, Florida State, Oregon, Arizona, Georgia, Texas. After narrowing it down to Ohio State and Arizona, he felt a pull westward, following in his dad’s footsteps. During a college visit, the atmosphere in Tucson was electric: Arizona’s March Madness run was in full swing. Campbell texted me and said, “Cancel that Ohio trip. I’m going to Arizona.” That August, we loaded up the car and drove west to start his college adventure.

College bumps and the right fit
College life hit a few bumps along the way. Campbell didn’t initially get into his preferred fraternity, and early film classes didn’t feel like the right fit. He even changed his major to global studies for a time. I never thought that was a good idea but I kept my mouth shut. After a semester, however, he circled back to film, this time with a new focus. He joined the university’s media team, Zona Zoo, filming everything from football to gymnastics. He created hype videos for pep rallies, pouring his skills into visual storytelling. By his senior year, he was media director, and his work caught the eye of a ZBT fraternity alum who worked for the MLB.

Seizing opportunity with MLB
That connection turned into an incredible opportunity: a job with the MLB covering the Padres, even before Campbell’s junior year ended. He juggled school with frequent trips to San Diego, living in a string of Airbnbs and sublets as he worked and learned. After graduation, we headed straight to Los Angeles to settle him into his new apartment, where he began working for MLB covering Dodgers games.
From self-taught to World Series lead
That first year in Los Angeles, he was just 22 years old and attending his first World Series. It’s astounding to think he’s self-taught in photography, videography and editing—he learned most of it on his own, with a single photography class at University of Arizona under his belt.
And now, just this week, he texted us: “Today marks the 6th World Series I’ve been to, and it’s my first as lead. And it just so happens it’s the biggest one in a long time.”
A world of experiences
Since joining MLB, Campbell’s job has taken him across the world—London, Germany, Mexico, Japan, South Korea—capturing players’ biggest moments and the stories that make their careers memorable. He’s documented draft days, Rookie of the Year ceremonies, and countless behind-the-scenes celebrations.
Seeing him do what he loves, preserving moments for proud parents like me, is the grand slam I’ll always cherish
Campbell's pulled off some wild stunts in his time as an MLB content creator, but nothing quite compares to his Green Man escapade during the 2022 World Series. It was a hilarious, totally unexpected Halloween surprise that had the Philly crowd roaring.
Check out his Instagram below to see the chaos unfold. While he might not be the star of the show, he definitely stole the spotlight for a moment. Just look at the crowd's reaction!
This is perfect! So proud of Campbell. I remember that cute little tow-headed boy!
