Here’s a short post this week because my friend Micky Dobo made a friendly observation, suggestion, consideration. Heh. This is why I love my friends so much—they're always honest with me!
So I’m staying short, sweet and close to home for this post — on 49th Avenue in The Nations.
As I was walking down the street one morning, this image of beauty caught my eye — a motorcycle and a cat tucked away in a dilapidated house’s backyard, one of the few remnants of the old neighborhood.
This is truly what inspired me to start this newsletter — beauty is everywhere.
It’s not just reserved for the wealthy, educated or curated, and aren't necessary ingredients in order to be captivated or allured by something either.
It’s the moment when you see something that inspires or touches your soul — even in places where people might least expect it.
Next time you’re out and about slow down. Look around. Take it all in.
Leave a comment and let me know what unique thing catches your eye this week — makes you literally turn around and snap a shot. We’ll figure out a way I can share on my social media.
Around my virtual water-cooler
Since I work from home, my water-cooler time is often on a phone call from my other WFH friends. Today I’m sharing what I’ve been talking about this week.
It was so awesome to see the daughter of my very dear friends perform on The Tonight Show. Nashville-based Soccer Mommy killed it, as always. Watch a clip HERE!
Nick Mulvey an English musician, singer and songwriter dropped a new song Brother to You! His music has a wonderfully wistful feel to it and I've become a huge fan. Listen on Apple Music or Spotify
My TikTok find was the Hot Girl Walk. I guess I’ve been hot girl walking for a while or maybe just girl walking.
Yeah, I'm going to give this Jamaican Punch recipe from fellow substack writer, Everyday Drinking a go. What's not too like, Mon? Strawberry infused simple syrup and rum with fresh-squeezed lime juice!
I was a little awe-struck when I finally met Annie Sellick. I mean, who isn't? She's one of Nashville's favorite jazz singers, and I'd seen her play at F. Scott's in Green Hills a million times. You couldn’t miss her — and her dreadlocks. Now she’s changed her hair, an adorable pixie and sometimes something a little funkier. Now she’s doing the same with her music playing lead and bass with The One Sixty Nine band, Annie’s “New Orleans Funk, Southern Rock” band, Can’t wait to see her in a cool dive bar soon in and around Nashville!
Your weekly dose of Nashville kitsch
"Brevity is the soul of wit." Great writing. I like the abbreviated post, and the water cooler format! LOVE the motorcycle + cat photo, and LOVE the message. Beauty is everywhere. It is as necessary to human existence as food, water and shelter. Keep going. XOXO, Ginger
Love your short, sweet and close to home shot with the big kitty! Annie Sellick is so cool, playing bass nowadays along with all her many talents - I've been wanting to catch a show with her new band.
